Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

WHY DATA SCIENCE & ANALYTICS?

The Data Science & Analytics organization's mission is to increase our speed, frequency and acumen of making decisions at scale by instilling a data-influenced approach to building products. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product verticals, we use this extensive tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure impact on our community of players and developers.

WHY ENGINE?

The Engine team is missioned to build world-class elastic game engine technology that powers engaging experiences. We build the core technology that powers our 3D worlds including rendering, simulation, networking and systems. As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll partner with engineers, data scientists, technical program managers, and leaders across the company in our efforts to continually improve the quality and performance of our game engine and the user generated content that runs on top of it. Your work will touch every part of the engine, from threading and memory management to physics and scripting. You will define KPI’s and measure the impact of key features and improvements, while discovering areas of opportunity through dashboards, analysis and A/B experiments.

You Will:

  • Develop Scalable Data Products – Build solutions that monitor and measure the impact of engineering optimizations in a scalable and automated way.
  • Operationalize Metrics Monitoring – Design dynamic dashboards that enable quick slicing, dicing, and root cause analysis. Collaborate with engineers to detect and investigate anomalous trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Optimize Performance Through the Engine – Gain a deep understanding of how networking, rendering, and simulation contribute to a fast, scalable, and engaging experience. Leverage this knowledge to dynamically optimize the user experience from an Engine perspective.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work with stakeholders across Engine, Growth, and Creator teams to navigate ambiguity and drive impactful data-driven decisions.
  • Transform & Visualize Data – Access, process, and analyze raw data, then present actionable insights using a custom analytics toolkit built from state-of-the-art open-source libraries.
  • Leverage A/B Testing & Causal Inference – Design and execute experiments to measure the success of product feature launches, ensuring decisions are data-driven and statistically sound.
  • Shape the Future of the Roblox Platform – Influence how Roblox enhances the experience for players and developers, driving innovation and improving overall platform performance.

You Have:

  • Advanced Degree and/or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Economics, Engineering or other related quantitative fields
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably with background in game engine, system performance, etc.
  • Strong data engineering experience. e.g. telemetry logging, data pipeline building, dashboard design
  • Demonstrated ability to drive an area as an individual contributor and thought leader
  • Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
  • Ability to communicate analytics results and data storytelling to influence engineering teams and leaders

You Are:

  • Passionate about data. You have the curiosity and self-drive to continuously learn new techniques and tools to extract value from data. You have a degree in Operations, Computer Science, Statistics or other relevant fields.
  • A strong communicator. You understand that analysis must be presented in meaningful ways and engage in spirited discussions about the findings. You have the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and discuss appropriate tradeoffs.
  • An expert collecting and transforming data with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R. You’re experienced in automating efforts and crunching massive volumes of data using big data frameworks.
  • Experienced at developing solutions to draw insights from data. You use regression techniques, data mining, statistical techniques and deep learning to create new, scalable solutions to solve difficult business problems. You understand when to apply the appropriate methodology, tool, framework to maximize impact in a pragmatic fashion.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
