The Communications Specialist is a key member of the MSI marketing team supporting the third largest independent managing general agent (MGA) in the country. This role will primarily be responsible for developing and implementing internal communications strategies and content to ensure effective communication within the organization, while supporting external communications as needed. The communications specialist will generate story ideas and create and distribute content to various audiences and organize internal events to help strengthen company culture. This role will also develop customer communications and create content for external-facing channels, as needed. Must be able to write effectively, manage multiple projects, and recommend new strategies to achieve goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with cross-functional team members to create high-quality content for various internal channels, including the intranet, town halls, and lunch and learns to ensure that colleagues are informed about company news and updates.
- Develop and implement communication strategies that deliver clear, consistent, and engaging messages from our executive leaders to colleagues. This includes drafting talking points, preparing presentations, and creating communication materials that align with our company's vision and values.
- Collaborate with various departments to gather information and craft clear, concise, and engaging internal and external communications in the brand voice.
- Create engaging content for external channels targeting various audiences, as needed.
- Measure the effectiveness of communications strategies and make necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
- Deliver projects on time and partner effectively with internal clients to gain approval.
- Balance multiple projects with differing and aggressive timelines, deliverables, and expectations.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues to establish campaign objectives, complete tasks, and identify and solve problems.
- Identify needs and recommend new strategies to achieve goals.
- Execute special projects as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required
- Experience (years and type of experience): At least 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations required ; journalism background is a plus (must provide writing samples at interview).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to generate story ideas consistently and write effectively for a variety of internal and external audiences
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrate the organization’s core values, exuding behavior that is aligned with the company’s culture.
TECHNICAL, COMPUTER, AND SYSTEM-SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to learn any other appropriate program or software system used by the firm as necessary
