The Business Development Manager will drive partnerships with ISVs, focusing on API integration and interoperability with Square's products. Responsibilities include deal execution, revenue growth through API integrations, and capturing ISV feedback for internal teams, while leading cross-functional initiatives.

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Platform Partnerships team is responsible for taking Square's Developer APIs to market. We want to do our part to help ensure that sellers who use Square alongside third-party software applications can continue to have a cohesive experience. To that end, we are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to engage with leading ISVs across the SMB ecosystem to enable interoperability between their applications and Square. This entails the ISV integrating Square's APIs to deliver that cohesive experience to our mutual sellers.
You Will

  • Focus on driving net new partnerships with ISVs to enable interoperability between the ISV's products and Square's products via Square's Developer APIs
  • Lead all aspects of deal execution with independence and autonomy: identifying and prioritizing targets, meeting with prospects, business case development, deal structuring, negotiating terms and contracts, and closing/signing
  • Grow Square's API revenue via payments integrations with ISVs, as well as customer referrals
  • Capture the voice of the ISV and incorporate that into internal feedback to Square product teams and senior leadership
  • Partner with internal teams, spanning Product Management, Marketing, Finance, Sales, Legal, and more
  • Be accountable for the business results of your partnerships

You Have

  • 8+ years of experience in scoping and signing API integration partnerships with ISVs in the SMB space
  • Knowledge of the US SMB ISV space and how they intersect with Square
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to demonstrate return on investment for partner initiatives
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional, global initiatives
  • Strategic thinking with ability to identify and capitalize on new growth opportunities
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in fintech or payments industry
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
