About the Role:

As a Motive Automotive Service Technician, you will be a key member of the Connected Devices/Hardware team. Both a technologist and a resourceful problem solver, the successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of Motive Hardware, industry best practices, Automotive networking technologies and protocols, and optimal installation practices. You will be the role model to others for Motive Hardware knowledge, and standards of quality. Fluent Spanish is required and there is 50% travel to Mexico.

The ideal candidate will be a Computer Electronics expert, with a passion for Hardware and Automotive. Not afraid to own challenges and be hands on with the Customers, Hardware, and its deployment life cycle.

Motive is seeking a skilled Vehicle Protocol Technician to join our team. As a Vehicle Technician (Specialist), you will be responsible for installation, connectivity and feature quality of telematics devices within customer vehicles, ensuring high-quality data availability and reliability. You will play a key role in creating and delivering Technical Installation training and certification content surrounding vehicle connectivity. When critical telematics data fields are missing, you will inspect vehicles, collaborate with the larger telematics team and provide solutions. This role offers a unique mix of hands-on technical work, customer interaction, and strategic project management, perfect for those passionate about technology's role in operational improvement. We are looking for candidates with a solid computer electronics background and hands-on experience in deploying hardware at scale to join our team. Automotive / Logistics experience is a plus. This role is ideal for an engineer who is a strong, independent worker ready to take on new challenges, and eager to work with cutting edge technology.

The person in this role will be required to travel 30-40% of the time.

What You'll Do:

  • Become Subject Matter Expert on the Motive Hardware, Software Product Suite and Internal debugging tools.
  • Become Subject Matter Expert on Motive Telematics solutions, Deployment and Infield Analysis Practices.
  • Provide strategic onsite presence to Install, Supervise,Troubleshoot, QA, and Support Motive Implementations.
  • Proactively seek to increase telematics coverage through relationship management, onsite research and outreach.
  • Building and delivering installation partner training content and certification programs. 
  • Training & Certification of Third Parties and Internal Teams on Motive Installation Standards. 
  • Key stakeholders in building and maintaining online installation help center with articles, how-to-guides and additional resources.
  • Ensuring on-site efficiency and safety at all times
  • Guidance and Documentation: Collaborate closely with the Motive Field Engineering and Telematics teams, leveraging field experience to inform product enhancements, process improvements and innovations.
  • Escalation Handling: Manage the review and resolution of escalated telematics and technical issues, ensuring a positive outcome for all stakeholders.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or 2+ Years Relevant Experience or Certification
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time to Mexico
  • Must demonstrate strong Computer Electronics / Hardware proficiency
  • Expertise in vehicle architecture, embedded systems, and CAN bus communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in vehicle diagnostics via OBD-II (J1979) and J1939, and strong understanding of vehicle communication standards (ie. KWP, UDS).
  • Familiarity with legacy vehicle communication systems (ISO 9141, ISO 14230, SAE J1850, J1708, etc.)
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle high-priority and time-sensitive technical scenarios.
  • Confident in customer-facing roles, providing training, support, and assistance.
  • Learning of the Automotive Telematics & Logistics Industry Required, prior experience is a plus.
  • Ability to script using python, bash, or SQL.
