Position Purpose

Under general supervision, conducts analysis, pricing and risk assessment to estimate financial outcomes. Responsible for the collection of data, selection of parameters, and calculations involved with conducting actuarial analysis. Evaluate profitability of products and recommend corrective action. Act as a steward of data quality by discovering and discussing data anomalies and issues with underwriting, claims, branch support, accounting, and IT.

  • Increased limits studies

  • Loss reserve analysis

  • Actual vs. Expected analysis

  • Build exposure rating models for underwriter

  • Preform actuarial experience analyses to project loss and expense ratios

  • Audit underwriters for effective use and compliance of rules and rating plans

Education & Experience

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or a related field

  • 0-5 years of related experience and 2 actuarial exams completed

Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies

  • Ability to provide input or make recommendations to improve Risk Services functions.

  • Results orientated.

  • Communicate technical analyses results to broader audiences.

  • Ability to make good business judgments based on sound actuarial analysis.

  • Regularly offers ideas for enhanced actuarial analysis and occasionally acts independently to execute.

  • Demonstrates capabilities on more complex projects.

  • Types of projects include new product development for organic opportunities, increased limits studies, loss reserve analysis, Actual vs. Expected process, maintaining exposure rating models, supporting reserve opinion and regulatory reporting, auditing underwriters for effective use and compliance of rules and rating plans, assisting with predictive analytics projects.

Compensation OverviewThe base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future. Base Pay Range$82,166.00 - $119,757.00
