Since its founding in 2013, DoorDash has made a name for itself in the on-demand delivery space, whether it’s takeout from a local cafe or groceries from a nearby convenience store. Having grown beyond its San Francisco roots and into different corners of the world, the company is deepening its U.S. presence with a new office in Seattle.

DoorDash has seen significant business growth over the past couple of years, due in part to consumer behavioral changes during the pandemic. As restaurants prioritized food delivery amid lockdowns and social distancing mandates, DoorDash recorded a huge increase in order volume — from $24.7 billion in 2020 to $41.9 billion in 2021. This growth can also be attributed to the company’s expansion into new categories, such as grocery and alcohol delivery.

The company has also grown its global team and added new talent over the last two years. It’s continuing the effort by recruiting talent for its hub locations. These offices of more than 100 people house teams working to build out strategic functions and initiatives, according to a company blog post.

The newest of these hubs is in the 2+U building in downtown Seattle. The 30,440-square-foot office encompasses communal workstations, conference rooms, phone booths, an all-hands space, a focus room, a parent’s room and a modular room for training and large meetings.

“We’re thrilled to call Seattle and the Pacific Northwest home,” David Azose, DoorDash’s director of engineering and Seattle site lead, said in a statement. “With the new expanded office, we hope to attract and welcome talented individuals who are looking to make an impact, while empowering local businesses in Seattle and beyond. Our Seattle hub continues to grow to support key business initiatives as we accelerate into new growth categories and innovate upon our core logistics platform.”

The company’s new office seats about 100 people primarily in technical roles. However, talent in the space spans most departments across the company, a DoorDash representative told Built In via email. The new office opened its doors on November 7.

As it grows its team, DoorDash is currently hiring Seattle talent across all departments for remote and in-person roles. The company has adopted a flexible workplace model and strives to help bring people together both physically and virtually. DoorDash says its offices are built to incorporate collaborative in-person experiences that meet the needs of its teams.

“In many ways, whether Covid-19 occurred or not, we would be evolving how we work,” Tony Xu, co-founder and CEO of DoorDash, said in a company blog post. “As a growing organization with offices across the world and teams distributed across cities, we will continue to iterate. And as with all things at DoorDash, we will always aim to improve and keep getting better.”
