Airline bookings have come a long way since the days of having to frequent travel agents, however, the process is still cumbersome at times and can add to the headaches of traveling. Bellevue-based Gordian Software is making the booking process simpler and recently secured new funding to expand its team and product.
Gordian Software creates APIs that integrate with travel booking platforms such as Hopper and Trip.com to make it easier to purchase travel add-ons such as extra baggage, seat selection or priority boarding. Prior to Gordian, travelers booking flights on third-party platforms were redirected to the airline’s website to purchase add-ons.
The travel software startup announced on Tuesday it closed a $25 million Series A round co-led by Accomplice and Vinyl. The round also brought Gordian’s valuation to $200 million. The company has raised $33 million in venture funding since launching in 2017.
“Much of the airline industry is stuck in a technological time warp, working with outdated systems that don’t communicate with each other,” Stephen Grabowski, CEO of Gordian Software, said in a statement. “The result is lost revenue for airlines and their partners and an unsatisfactory and overly-complicated experience for travelers who want to customize aspects of their flight. We are solving this problem by providing a simple, flexible platform for selecting and purchasing add-ons and, in doing so, are on track to capture this multi-billion-dollar market.”
Gordian’s API works with most major airlines and by integrating with travel platform searches to help sell add-ons to customers. With the fresh funding, the company is looking to create new products that provide solutions to other travel issues such as travelers insurance, fare protection, automatic check-in and health screenings.
Gordian will also use the new capital to triple its headcount by the end of the year.
