Getty Images, one of the largest repositories of digital photographs available for licensing, announced that it will begin to sell NFTs through a multi-year partnership with Candy Digital, an NFT marketplace that has partnerships with the MLB and WWE.

Getty was founded in 1995 and has a collection of digital and analog photos spanning the last 170 years that document everything from red carpet events to global conflicts. According to the company, its digital photo library consists of 465 million images, while its analog collection has over 135 million images.

Many of the analog images have never been released to the public and will be digitized in collaboration with Candy Digital to create limited edition NFTs. As the partnership continues, other NFTs will be minted from content owned by Getty Images and will be available to purchase on the Getty Images marketplace on the Candy Digital website.

“With the very best content at our core, innovation is woven into the fabric of Getty Images and this partnership speaks to our mission to connect people with our high quality, exclusive visual content,” Getty Images CEO Craig Peters said in a statement. “We are proud to work with Candy Digital to expand our offering to the fast-growing global audience of NFT collectors, representing significant opportunities for the company and our global photographer community.”

Getty Images’ NFTs will be minted on the eco-friendly Palm blockchain. The NFTs will be available for purchase using credit or crypto payment.

The introduction of photography represented a seismic shift in how we were able to document, store, and share our history,” Scott Lawin, Candy Digital CEO, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be working with Getty Images to develop NFT products that creatively bring these iconic and rare photographs from the last two centuries to life for people to experience and collect in a new digital format.”
