Seattle-based indie game publisher tinyBuild recently invested $3 million into video game development studio Hologryph, which brings the company closer to the release of its upcoming game for next-gen consoles.

Founded in 2011, tinyBuild has released over 40 games for various platforms, including PC, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia and mobile. One of its most popular franchises is its Hello Neighbor series, which has been downloaded over 60 million times. Secret Neighbor, which is also from that series, was actually developed by Hologryph.

By investing $3 million, tinyBuild will now own the majority stake in Hologryph. This allows tinyBuild to tap Hologryph’s team of developers for its upcoming games. One of these upcoming games is Hello Neighbor 2, where players investigate an open world while being stalked by an AI antagonist. The game is currently slated for release in 2021.

Both Sony and Microsoft recently released their next generation of consoles: the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X and S. Because of this, the next few months will be key for video game companies looking to get their games on these consoles. Although Hello Neighbor 2 will be an exclusive title for PC and Xbox Series X when it releases, some of the funds from tinyBuild’s investment in Hologryph will go toward an upcoming game that will be available for both the new Xboxes and Playstation 5.

“Hologryph will work on a new cross-platform IP that is created with the possibilities of next-gen hardware in mind,” tinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik said in a statement.

“Together with Hologryph we have learned how to expand franchises effectively. Hologryph’s team worked closely with us on Party Hard 2 as a co-developer and created Hello Neighbor’s multiplayer spin-off, Secret Neighbor, Nichiporchik continued. “Now we’re working together on building a brand new, exciting and unique world where players will lose themselves for thousands of hours — with a focus on next-generation consoles.”
