Although office life may seem like a distant memory at this point, one startup just announced that it’s opening an office in Seattle, and it’s coming by way of Australia.
Brisbane-based Clipchamp announced on Thursday that its first United States office will be in Seattle. This news comes right after the company hired Benjamin Gauthey as its VP of global strategy and business development. Gauthey is Clipchamp’s first major U.S. hire since it raised its Series A in February. He has previous experience leading sales and marketing efforts for Amazon and Microsoft.
This move comes at a time when Clipchamp is trying to expand its reach internationally and partner with more U.S.-based companies. Although all Clipchamp employees are currently working remotely, the company plans to hire in Seattle for the future.
“Seattle has an amazing and diverse pool of talents with a vibrant tech community. We are looking forward to hiring from this impressive pool of talent and growing our global presence,” Gauthey said in a statement.
The company didn’t give an exact date for when the Seattle office will open, but it did say that it will be located downtown close to the tech community.
Clipchamp has created an array of software tools for creating and editing digital video. The company has designed its software to be easy to use, and can help content creators post professional-looking videos on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram.
Over 10 million people worldwide use Clipchamp’s video software, with two million of those users added since February.
“Already a billion-dollar market, the video content creation industry is growing exponentially through COVID-19, with platforms such as TikTok seeing an increase of 842 million in first-time downloads over the past few months,” Clipchamp CEO Alex Dreiling said in a statement. “As industries continue to adjust to the ‘new normal,’ video creation has become an essential part of business marketing activities, with organizations looking to continually create and distribute new and engaging content across various platforms.”
