AuthorDigital, an independent game company based in Seattle, announced Friday it raised $5.5 million to start a new studio called Adept Games in partnership with investor Super.com.
According to a news release, Adept Games will be a way for London-based Super.com to strengthen its presence in the United States, beginning with a new marketing office in Seattle. It will also provide a space for AuthorDigital to merge ideas, technology and design into the studio’s upcoming games.
“We are starting conversations with partners and publishers about the innovative way we are approaching the next-generation platforms and how our games will connect players to have more fun together,” the company’s CEO Serena Robar said in a statement. “We’re looking for the best partnerships we can find to bring our ideas to light.”
AuthorDigital is headed by Serena and Jason Robar, who is CPO. Bill Roper, a veteran game designer, will be Adept Games’ chief creative officer. Oleg Sambikin, Nikita Vladimirov, Nikolay Bondarenko and Anna Grigorieva — all core team members at Super.com and veterans of the game industry as well — will also be brought on board.
“We chose the name ‘Adept Games’ because we wanted to convey how talented the team is at doing something that isn’t easy — transmuting ideas, technology and art into fun,” Jason Robar said in a statement. “The team has an average of 20 years of game industry experience. Everyone has something to contribute from their background.”
According to the studio’s website, Adept Games has open positions in its art, engineering and marketing departments.
