The Role

Must be located within Region: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, and Nevada

The Supercharger Design Manager role entails active program coordination of all deployment phases of Tesla's Supercharger projects: including project feasibility, due diligence, layout and design, utility coordination and easements, permitting and construction support. The ideal candidate ha s relevant hands-on experience managing infrastructure projects (up to thirty projects at one time across multiple states) and demonstrates a bias to action, logical problem solving, and mastery of a project's tactical details. Finally, they bring high energy and an optimistic approach to fully completing projects in a swift and quality manner.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of due diligence, design, entitlement, and utility coordination of Supercharger sites within a given territory. A key performance indicator is the number of sites successfully brought to a construction-ready status
  • Facilitate field site visits for due diligence on construction, engineering, utility, and cost. Provide site reports and sketches as needed
  • Review title reports and surveys for ownership, encumbrances, and easements; assess construction viability
  • Plan, coordinate, review, and approve legal documents and plans for right-of-way/easement/property acquisitions
  • Meet with zoning/permitting personnel to understand jurisdictional approval requirements and opportunities for timeline reduction. Represent Tesla and the Supercharger program at public meetings. Track and manage status of all needed approvals
  • Serve as the liaison with utility company personnel to determine the best routing of primary electrical service
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with utilities, authorities having jurisdiction, architects, and engineers. Activate process improvements and cost/timeline reductions
  • Track the manufacturing of long lead time materials and partner with the construction manager to ensure a timely delivery to the job sites

Requirements

  • Ability to travel (30%) required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of project management, construction management, and/or site development experience
  • Prior work in EV installation/telecom/solar/retail development as a project manager, project engineer, or installer strongly preferred
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering (civil/mechanical/electrical) or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Direct utility experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of AC and DC power, transformers, circuit protection, single-line electrical and mechanical diagrams, and construction drawings
  • Proven record of managing and delivering multiple simultaneous projects ahead of schedule, while adhering to the highest quality and standards
  • Advanced knowledge of site development procedures, including regulatory and permitting processes
  • Working knowledge of power integration and utility design processes is a plus
  • Working knowledge of utility design processes
  • Skilled in reading, understanding and redlining zoning and construction drawings, including utility designs and power distribution details
  • Accountable to cost implications of construction design options and able to make cost-efficiency recommendations
  • Aptitude in communicating and building relationships with property owners, local jurisdictions, utility companies and other stakeholders throughout the project cycle
  • Ability to function autonomously, working independent of a support staff, without formal requirements documentation, in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to manage changing priorities
  • Entrepreneurial approach to accomplishing tasks with an efficient use of resources
  • Self-starter approach to challenging the status quo; bring innovative ideas that improve our: designs, processes, assemblies, costs, or Tesla more broadly
  • Ability to identify the critical path issues and institute remedies that shorten that critical path
  • Ability to obtain a US passport
  • Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record

      • Associate Technical Project Mgr - $83,600 - $125,400/annual salary
      • Technical Project Mgr - $95,000 - $142,500/annual salary
      • Sr Technical Project Mgr - $117,800 - $176,700/annual salary
      • Staff Technical Project Mgr - $136,800 - $205,200/annual salary
      • Sr Staff Technical Project Mgr - $163,400 - $245,100/annual salary
      • Principal Technical Project Mgr - $190,000 - $285,000/annual salary

      + cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
